- Story Text: Liza Minnelli walked the red carpet in Los Angeles on Thursday (April 12) to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of "Cabaret" - the film that brought her an Oscar for best actress in 1972.
The film was being screened as the opening of the third annual TCM Classic Movie Festival - which honors films from Hollywood's historic past.
Minnelli said it did not seem like 40 years had passed since she went to Berlin to work on the movie.
"No, not at all. It doesn't seem that at all. But then again, I don't live in the past. I'm always here or looking towards the future. What I do remember about the film is that a lot of people think it was, they hear, "Cabaret," and they think a frivolous musical. It's not. It's very interesting - about right when the Nazis were taking over and Berlin was so decadent. Divinely decadent. It's hot."
As for her future, she said she's not sure what the next 40 years have in store - but whatever it is, she's looking forward to it.
"I don't know, but somebody will call me tomorrow. Maybe I'll record again with a rock and roll group, or do another film in Bolivia. Whatever. I just wait."
Minnelli shared the carpet with her co-star from the film, Joel Grey. Grey also won an Oscar for his role.
Other guests hitting the carpet for the premiere included screen legend Debbie Reynolds - who sang her own little rendition of the musical on the red carpet.
