- Story Text: German transport minister Peter Ramsauer on Monday (November 26) announced that he would like to postpone the start of the ratification process for the Swiss-German agreement on aircraft traffic .
Speaking at a news conference in Berlin, Ramsauer said Germany was united with neighbouring Switzerland "in our goal for less aircraft noise and a permanent solution."
"That's why we have agreed upon making the following offer to the Swiss side: That we clarify and solve questions, which arise from the state agreement, in a legally binding form and under international law," said Ramsauer. Until we have clarified these questions, I would like to postpone start of the ratification process, it's worth the effort to go this way," he added.
Ramsauer and his Swiss counterpart Doris Leuthard signed a state agreement on September 4 regarding air traffic at Zurich airport, ending a long-lasting dispute over aircraft noise. According to the agreement evening flights over Germany will only be allowed until 1900gmt (at the moment 2000gmt). Zurich airport is required to extend its runways for airplanes approaching from the east. From the latest from January 1, 2020 no flights should be allowed anymore between 1700-0530gmt during weekdays and between 1700-0800gmt during weekends and bank holidays. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
