- Title: UNITED KINGDOM: Former supermodel Cindy Crawford returns from birth of her child with fitness workout video 'A new dimension'
- Date: 24th March 2000
- Summary: LONDON, UK (MARCH 29, 2000) (REUTERS TV) (SOUNDBITE) (English) CINDY CRAWFORD SAYING "I think because I wasn't super young when I started modeling and I did have a solid education behind me, that I wasn't as likely to fall into some of the pitfalls, I wasn't super young and naive, I wasn't stupid, I was close to my family so they kept me grounded, and then I think because I get bored easily I wasn't satisfied to just stand in front of the camera and smile all the time, I was always looking, to do MTV was a new challenge, something else to do, producing videos, it gives my mind something to do as well as the physical side of modeling. So I think being open to those opportunities and pursuing them have helped me have a longer, more diverse career that traditional models of my generation have. It's changing now for all models but I think it's because myself and Elle MacPherson have said we want more, we want to be involved because it's more fun for us"

- Story Text: It seems that everyone who's anyone these days is having children, from pop singers to film stars, TV presenters and even supermodels, having a kid is cool.Needless to say, celebrity mums always seem to look as slim and glamorous as before.Cindy Crawford is no exception, back in great shape after the birth of her son and she's decided to share her fitness regime with the world in her new workout video.
She's graced the cover of 500 magazines and has two best-selling fitness videos under her belt. After over a decade at the top of the fitness and beauty world, Cindy Crawford is one of the recognised faces there is.Eight months after the birth of her first child, a boy named Presley, the supermodel tuned supermum looks fabulous, and appreciates her body more than ever,
"I actually even though my body probably isn't aesthetically as good as it was ten years ago, and especially since having my son, but in some ways I think I am more at ease with it, more accepting, especially you appreciate all the hard work it went through to have this baby."
For a model, having a baby is a big step, there's always the fear that the figure that earns them lucrative fashion work will never be the same again, but for Crawford, fitness and exercise has always been such a big part of her life that it's no surprise that she got back in shape so quickly, "When I first got pregnant, I think that thought went through my head, what if I never get back into shape again, my career is over, but fitness has always been...I was never the type of model who could eat what she wanted and didn't have to exercise to stay thin, so I've always had to exercise and eat healthy in order to remain thin enough for the clothes, so that's always been part of my regime for the last fourteen years, and then when I got pregnant I didn't use pregnancy as an excuse to sit in bed and eat a thing of Haagen Das every night, and then after I had my son I worked to get back into shape."
She enlisted the help of fitness guru Kathy Kaehler and together they created "A New Dimension".The video is made up of three programmes, 12 minutes, 16 minutes and 41 minutes long. The idea is that even the busiest of new mums can find a few moments to herself to get back in shape, and suits the needs of everyone, whatever their fitness level.Crawford has always worked out and her two previous videos were best-sellers, although that wasn't the reason she started to keep fit, "I don't think that my motivation started out as doing it for other people, I just couldn't stay thin, I don't smoke so that whole smoking and coffee thing was not an option for me, I had to work out and eat healthy. And then what I found was people really responded to that, that I was real, that I am not super super thin, that I do have to work, that it wasn't just I eat chocolate and I can do whatever I want and I stay thin. And I think now I value that relationship that I have with my women audience and I try to give back in a positive way."
Crawford admits there is a constant pressure on women to look good, society is seemingly obsessed with the body beautiful, but she recognises that the world of fashion is one of extremes but also of fantasy, "But I think what people need to understand is, for instance, if a fashion magazine is selling watches they'll have a girl with ten watches on and it's a suggestion, it's an extreme, it's not to be taken literally, and even maybe I think super thin models, they look more like pencil sketches that designers do to kind of exaggerate something, and it's an exaggeration, and I don't think even the magazines think it's realistic for women to look like that, I think the danger is when we buy into it, and we feel that we have to look like that."
After fourteen years as a model, and her highly successful ventures into the worlds of television, fitness, Cindy Crawford has proved that she is not just a pretty face.
She was studying for a science degree when she decided to pursue her dream of modeling, a move that has certainly paid off,
"I think because I wasn't super young when I started modeling and I did have a solid education behind me, that I wasn't as likely to fall into some of the pitfalls, I wasn't super young and naive, I wasn't stupid, I was close to my family so they kept me grounded, and then I think because I get bored easily I wasn't satisfied to just stand in front of the camera and smile all the time, I was always looking, to do MTV was a new challenge, something else to do, producing videos, it gives my mind something to do as well as the physical side of modeling. So I think being open to those opportunities and pursueing them have helped me have a longer, more diverse career that traditional models of my generation have. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
