- Story Text: Indonesia's new ambassador to Ghana, Major-General Raden Alibasjah Satari, has presented his credentials to the Chairman of Ghana's National Redemption Council, Colonel Ignatius Acheampong.
As he arrived for the ceremony, Major-General Satari was accorded a military welcome - complete with a guard of honour, a military band and a march-past.
During formal speeches both the Major-General and Colonel Acheampong spoke of the commitment of the two countries to non-alignment.
On the same day, Colonel Acheampong also received the credentials of a new Indian Ambassador to Ghana. The two diplomats were the first to be received by Ghana's Head of State since he assumed power following the coup on January 13th which overthrew the government of Dr. Kofi Busia.
SYNOPSIS: Arriving to present his credentials in Accra on Wednesday -- Indonesia's new Ambassador to Ghana, Major-General Raden Alibasjah Satari. He was one of two new ambassadors received by Ghana's Head of State, Colonel Acheampong -- the first since the Colonel assumed power after the January coup. There was elaborate ceremonial for the arrival of the Indonesian for the arrival of the Indonesian envoy -- including a military band and a full guard of honour.
Ambassador Satari was to speak later of his hope that new avenues of cooperation between Indonesia and Ghana will be found. With the ambassador - Ghana's Foreign Affairs Secretary , Mr. Tutu.
The formal ceremony took place inside the residence of the Head of State. With him, the new ambassador carried the letters of recall issued to his predecessor as well as messages of goodwill form the Government of Indonesia.
Inside, the handing over of the papers. During the ceremony, the Ambassador was to point out that both Ghana and Indonesia attach special significance to the policy of non-alignment, He described the policy as an irreplaceable instrument for easing world tension.
In reply, Colonel Acheampong pointed out that both Ghana and Indonesia are developing countries beset by handicaps not entirely of there own making. The handicaps, he side, serve as a challenge to statesmanship and the ability of the two countries to ???.
