- Story Text: Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson graced the red carpet Wednesday night (July 23 2008) for the world premiere of their latest film, "The X-Files: I Want To Believe. "
The screening at the historic Mann's Grauman Chinese Theatre in Hollywood included a unique question and answer session between the stars and the show's fans.
The long awaited film reunites television series stars Duchovny and Anderson on the silver screen for a second time in supernatural thriller that is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show's most acclaimed and beloved episodes. In the film, the complicated relationship between Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) is taken in unexpected directions. Mulder continues his unshakable quest for the truth, while Scully, the passionate, ferociously intelligent physician, remains inextricably tied to Mulder's pursuits.
For Anderson and Duchovny, returning to their roles as Scully and Mulder, was comfortable.
"It was hugely fun," explained Anderson, who is expecting.
"I think we were all very interested in coming back to do this all together again. It was also with a different perspective because we all wanted to be there. There were times over the years that we were exhausted by the series and perhaps would have preferred to be somewhere else. But, in this case we all signed up for it and we are all extremely excited about it."
"It was gratifying to do something that becomes a touchstone outside of the show," explained Duchovny on "The X-Files"
continued popularity. "You can't plan or control that type of thing, it just happens."
For director/creator Chris Carter, getting the cast and crew back together is just another chapter in the story's evolution.
"For me, it is 17 years that I have been doing this," said Carter. "I imagined these characters so long ago and the fact they are were they are today, is for people who are involved personally and professionally, it is not that far, it ia very slow courtship."
