But it may be just two percent of the complete network which spreads for tens of kilometres, not just under town of Visoko but all the way to Zenica and Sarajevo. It seems that very developed ancient civilisations lived here in the past." VISITORS IN TUNNEL HILL NEAR VISOKO

- Story Text: Enthusiasts of the theory of the Bosnian pyramids from twelve countries gathered in Bosnian town of Visoko to discuss the origin of pyramid-shaped formations they believe are the only Europe's pyramids.
They also want to shed some light on the purpose of the huge complex of underground tunnels built according to some theories by the ancient inhabitants of Bosnia.
In spite of lot of scepticism and criticism from the local and foreign experts, Bosnian-born American amateur archaeologist and researcher Semir Osmanagic continues for the sixth year to explore the anomalies detected in the central Bosnian hills which he claims to be the 12,000-year-old pyramids and biggest complex of pyramids discovered in the world so far. The sceptics say these are simply natural geological formations.
"These are the first European pyramids, the biggest in the world, with the most perfect orientation to the cardinal directions of the earth (North, South, East and West) with concrete blocks of the best quality, the my fifth point is these are the oldest pyramids, the sixth point is there is the biggest network of underground tunnels, and the seventh point is there are the biggest ceramic sculptures. So these seven reasons change our views of the past of the world if we also consider the energy phenomena. With possibility to get the sources of the free energy we can change the future of the world. What we have in Visoko has been created by more developed civilisation than ours. World experts will confirm it here and we will make pioneering steps in developing the new science, science on pyramids," said Osmanagic at the opening of the conference in Visoko.
His theory about pyramids in Bosnia has been denounced by local and European archaeologists, who say that ancient civilizations in Europe lived in caves and could not build such structures. But in 2006 Egyptian geologist Aly Abd Barakat, sent to Bosnia by Egypt's government said a hill in central Bosnia appeared to be a primitive human-made pyramid of uncertain age.
Hundreds of volunteers from around the world come every year to Visoko to help the small Bosnian team of researchers led by Osmanagic to prove the theory which confronts traditional understanding of human history.
"What we have here is a very complex network of tunnels, passages, crossings, rooms and underground lakes, artificial water reservoirs. In the last couple of years we cleaned and secured several hundreds of existing prehistoric tunnels. But it may be just two percent of the complete network which spreads for tens of kilometres, not just under town of Visoko but all the way to Zenica and Sarajevo. It seems that very developed ancient civilisations lived here in the past," Osmanagic said after leading conference participants and journalists through the maze of the underground tunnels.
Osmanagic first discovered three hills which he calls Bosnian Pyramids of Sun, Moon and Dragon. Later he announced the existence of two more pyramid-shaped objects in the Visoko valley, 18 miles (30 kilometres) north of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo.
Since 2005 when Osmanagic publicised his theory of the only European pyramids valleys around Visoko as well as hills and tunnels became a tourist attraction. Thanks to Osmanagic and other enthusiasts, who worked on making tunnels, caves and the hills accessible for visitors, the number of tourists is steadily growing. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
