- Story Text: As tension continued to build on the Korean peninsula on Tuesday (April 18), storm clouds hung heavy over the North Korean capital Pyongyang.
On Monday (April 17), flights to Vladivostok, Beijing and Shenyang carrying journalists were reportedly delayed for hours. North Korean airline Air Koryo said the delay was due to "rain clouds".
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who left Seoul for Tokyo on Tuesday after assuring leaders of the "iron-clad" alliance with the United States, has warned the reclusive North that the "era of strategic patience" is over.
North Korea has conducted a series of missile and nuclear tests in defiance of U.N. sanctions, and regularly threatens to destroy Japan, South Korea and the United States. The country showed no let-up in its defiance after a failed missile test on Sunday (April 16), a day after putting on a huge display of missiles in Pyongyang. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
