- Story Text: The French armed forces are holding their 4th exhibition of ground armaments at the military base of Satory near Versailles, fourteen miles (23 kms) southwest of Paris. Sixty delegations from foreign countries have been invited to attend the demonstration of tanks, missiles, armoured care and other equipment used by ground forces.
This film was shot on Wednesday (6 June) -- the only day that newsmen were allowed to attend -- but the exhibition, "Satory TV", began on Monday (4 June) and will run to Friday (8 June).
There were no starling innovations demonstrated at the show, but many of the tanks and other vehicles illustrated modifications and development carried-out since "Satory III" in 1971.
SYNOPSIS: French army representatives were out in force on Wednesday during "Satory Four" - France's exhibition of ground armaments. As with "Satory Three" two years ago, this year's exhibition was again at the Satory military base near Versailles southwest of Paris.
Armoured cars were much in evidence -- this is the Panhard M3, a twin-machine-gunned vehicle capable of fifty-five miles-an-hour over rough ground.
The "Combat 170" troop-carrier can carry on attack unit protected by heavy armour-plating at over fifty miles-an-hour. It's turret is armed with two small machine-guns or a single heavier gun.
The Panhard S530 armoured car mounts twin cannons on a highly mobile turret.
Some of the demonstrations were designed to show the increased mobility of troops using modern air and ground equipment. These troops are moved in to support a tank attack.
There were no completely new aircraft on vehicles at the show -- but much of the equipment has been adapted and improved since Satory Three two years ago. The AMX-30 tank has been redeveloped for use in hot desert countries, and has an improved cooling system.
The 10P armoured vehicle carries a 20-millimetre cannon and is very versatile. It is amphibious and can be transported by air.
Newsmen watched as the 10P showed off its ability to carry eleven fully-armed soldiers.
The Creusot-Loire F-Three mobile gun carries a hundred-and-fifty-five millimetre long-rang weapon, which can fire a maximum of four times every minute. Design changes to many of the vehicles demonstrated an increased awareness of the needs of the international arms market.
