If there is the option of doing better in a race, then one does it. Rather, it is not enough that the car gives 100 percent - but you have to try to get 110 percent out of it." - Story Text: Formula One racing driver Juan Pablo Montoya has made a brief appearance in his native Colombia to talk about his career and greet his fans.
Montoya, who drives for the Williams F1 team ended the season in third place in the world championship behind the Ferrari drivers. German Michael Schumacher won his third consecutive title and his team mate Brazilian Rubens Barrichello came second.
Montoya's third place showing seemed to have toughened his resolve however.
"It is not enough that the car gives 100 percent - but you have to try to get 110 percent out of it," he determinedly told reporters at a Wednesday news conference.
Montoya also spoke about the changes that will be implemented by the International Federation of Automobilies for the 2003 racing season.
He said he doesn't currently have a specific strategy for negotiating the 2003 season but doesn't expect much early on.
"The question is how fast the Ferrari goes next year and how fast Williams [Montoya's team] is going to be, I believe that we are not going to know this in the first race. It's going to be in the second or third race when we are going to begin to know," he explained.
The Colombian driver was the 1999 champion of the Formula Cart, and in 2000 he won the Indianapolis 500. In 2001, he qualified for the Formula One and finished in sixth place.
