- Story Text: Italy, World Cup Finalists 1970, showed their usual defensive skill as they held England and eventually beat them in a friendly soccer international at Wembley on Wednesday (November 14).
Fabio Capello scored Italy's breakaway goal three minutes from time after English goalkeeper Shilton dropped Chinaglia's strong cross.
Italy have qualified for next year's world cup and they have not lost for thirteen games or conceded a goal in the last ten. Goalkeeper Dino Zoff once more made fine saves but several English shots scraped the Italian posts, and England might well have had a penalty in the first half when Spinosi held Clarke.
The few near misses did not worry the Italian defence and England who were knocked out of the World Cup by Poland last month were once more unable to score goals despite long periods of attack.
