- Story Text: For the first time since the beginning of the Bosnian conflict, a convoy of Bosnian trucks -- escorted by United Nations (U.N.) armoured vehicles -- left besieged Sarajevo for the Moslem-held enclave of Gorazde on Monday (October 30).
The Bosnian drivers were given flak jackets and a French U.N.
soldier was in each truck. Dozens of people gathered as the trucks were leaving to hand in packages to be delivered to friends and relatives in Gorazde.
Colonel Laurent Motte of the French contingent said they did not expect any problems on the route. The Bosnian Serbs had been notified and had not objected. The Colonel said the U.N. had promised the Serbs that no military material would be carried on the convoy. U.N. soldiers had searched the trucks.
The opening of the road to Gorazde via Rogatica to civilian traffic is part of the ceasefire agreement. The trucks are expected to return to Sarajevo Monday night.
