- Story Text: - INTRO: Brazil dominated the South American windsurfing championships on Saturday (May 24) but an Argentinian took the top honour in this year's contest.
The glittering waters off Venezuela's Margarita Island provided the appropriate setting for some sparkling action in the eleventh South American Windsurfing Championships.
Hundreds of spectators travelled to the tropical island off Venezuela's north coast to watch the 125 contestants compete, scoring points in a series of slalom races.
Brazilian windsurfers dominated the competition, but the major prize eluded them, with Argentinian Sergio Mehl claiming the open title.
But it was the men from Brazil who swept every other event.
Ricardo Winiki claimed the junior title, Marcus Leite won the masters section and Marcelo Lasera the grand masters.
