  • Story Text: Yugoslavia's Kosovo province remains tense as thousands of Albanians took to the streets of Pristina to call for independence and the Yugoslavian army showed off what it said were weapons captured from Albanian terrorists.

    Ethnic Albanians marched through the streets of Pristina on Saturday (April 25) waving Albanian flags, after the United States warned of increased sanctions against Yugoslavia and Yugoslavs themselves gave a resounding "no" vote to western mediation in the Kosovo crisis.

    On Friday, Serbian voters sent an emphatic "Hands Off" message to Western powers hoping to check rising violence in the mainly ethnic Albanian province of Kosovo.The West promptly signalled that it would pay no heed to the vote.

    On Saturday the Yugoslavian Army showed off what it said were weapons captured from Albanian terrorists.

    Also on Saturday Serbian policeman Gligorija Milojevic was recovering in hospital.Milojevic sustained chest and stomach wounds in what was alleged to have been an attack by Albanian separatists.
