- Story Text: The host nation Turkey claimed two gold medals to win the team event at the World Freestyle Wrestling Championship, which ended at Instanbul on Sunday (August 28).
Turkey finished on 53 points, equal with Russia, but won on a countback because their wrestlers won two events to the Russians' one.
Turan Ceylan won Turkey's first gold medal in the 74kg class, beating Victor Peicov from Moldova. The second title for Turkey was won by Mahmut Demir in the 130kg class, who defeated Bruce Baumgartner, from the United States, 1-0.
Russia's only title was won by Moammed Azizov, who beat Belarus' Sergei Small 11-0 in the 62kg final. The Russians had a chance for another gold medal in the 90kg final, but Khadar Sev Maxharbek lost to Rasol Hadem of Iran, 4-1.
The other individual champion was Yalentin Jordanov from Bulgaria in the 52kg class.
