- Story Text: Spring is definitely in the air in the Netherlands as thousands of tourists flock to enjoy a national floral attraction - the Keukenhof gardens.
From as far afield as Japan, the United States and Australia, crowds packed the 80 acre garden to admire the dazzling array of colours and scents provided by more than six million tulips, narcissi, daffodils and hyacinths.
It was one of the first truly springlike days of the short season at the Keukenhof and most of the flowers opened in the April sunshine.
The Keukenhof welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors for two months each year and is the showcase for one of the Netherlands' most valuable crops.
Cut flowers and flower bulbs are big business in the Netherlands and gardeners come from far and wide to check on the latest colours and styles - most walking home with a few bulbs to plant in their gardens.
Tulip fields surround the gardens as far as the eye can see - with the plants being grown for export as flowers or bulbs.
The garden itself, which lies between the Hague and Amsterdam in the western Netherlands, stays open until the end of April.
