- Story Text: Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies who was left a quadriplegic after being thrown from a horse, attended the opening of the National Horse Show in New York on Wednesday (October 30).
Three hundred horses and more than 400 riders from the United States and around the world are competing in thethree-day show at Madison Square Garden. All equestrian skills are tested, including jumping. Reeve was thrown from a horse in a 1995 competition in Virgina when his horse unexpectedly balked at making a jump.
A spokesman for the National Horse Show said this was believed to be the first horse competition Reeve has attended since his accident.
