- Story Text: Haitian citizens gave a mixed reaction early on Friday morning (September 16) to the speach by United States (U.S.) President Bill Clinton threatening to invade their island state and force out its military regime.
One man said that he believed an invasion could worsen the situation and that fighting would not solve the issues. Another said it was inevitable that U.S. forces would occupy Haiti. He added that his countrymen did not have enough arms or amunition to fight.
Haitians' reactions were generally more muted than those of the Caribbean island's military ruler Raoul Cedras, who has vowed to defend the island "until death."
