- Story Text: The Bosnian government army 5th Corps defending Bihac town prepared for renewed fighting on Tuesday (November 29) and vowed to hold out as attacking Serb forces delayed their response to a United Nations (U.N.) ceasefire call for a second day.
The 5th Corps said Serb forces were once again attacking 10 kilometres (six miles) northwest of the town, using attack helicopters, tanks and an armoured train.
The Bosnian Serb 2nd Krajina Corps besieging Bihac reported fierce fighting on Monday (November 28) around Ribicka and Priticka Glava, three kilometres (1.5 miles) east of the town centre. It said its forces were not targeting the town or its hospital.
The Bosnian Serb army's supreme command, whose forces were on a victorious roll in the Bihac enclave and remained unchallenged by a NATO in charge of protecting the U.N. safe area, postponed its decision on a ceasefire proposal, Bosnian Serb sources said.
The United Nations has proposed a simple three-point ceasefire which would have combatants withdraw from the U.N.-designated 'safe area' of Bihac town and leave its administration to the U.N.
forces.
The Bosnian government, facing a bitter military defeat, has accepted the proposal.
