- Story Text: French marine officer Thierry Demonfort is the first man ever to cross the Gibraltar strait by parachute French marine officer Thierry Demonfort has become the first man to cross by parachute the 14-km wide Gibraltar strait, separating Morocco and Spain, on Wednesday (September 10).
Demonfort jumped from a balloon 5,000 metres high over the town of Tarif, Spain and reached Tangiers in northern Morocco, 28km away, in one hour, 48 minutes.
The officer is not a novice in such adventurous undertakings. He has already crossed the English Channel by parachute and is holder of another world record in tandem plummet. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
