- Story Text: Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi arrives in
Moscow for working visit.
Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi arrived in
Moscow on Monday (December 6) for working visit.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is due to receive him
in the Kremlin on Tuesday (December 7) to discuss economic
co-operation and co-operation on fighting international
terror.
The meeting was initiated by the Iraqi side. The
agreement was reached during a telephone conversation
between President Putin and Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad
Allawi late November this year.
Russia has promised to write off about 80 percent of
the Iraqi debt. After the 14th Russia-EU summit in The
Hague Putin drew attention to the fact that this was an
unprecedented debt relief for Iraq. When Russia joined the
Paris Club, it was decided that it would write off 65
percent of the debt.
