- Story Text: In Tema, Ghana, a new 900,000 pound starling (three million Ghanain cedis) milk products factory was opened last week (April 14) by Ghana's Commissioner for Lands and Mineral Resources, Major Kwame Baah.
The factory, known as the Food Speculates Ghana Limited, began commercial production of tinned milk last October. The local production of milk products is expected to save Ghana nearly a half-million pounds sterling (one and half million Ghanain cedis) a year in foreign exchange.
The project was completed with financial assistance from the Financial Investment Bank of Ghana and by the Nestle Organisation. M. W. Mutsaerts of Nestle's and Mr. E.P.L. Gyampoh of the National Investment Bank addressed those attending the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. Major Baah - acting on behalf of Colonel Ignatius Acheampong, leader of Ghana's National Redemption Council - also made a speech.
SYNOPSIS: Ghana's new milk products factory was officially opened in Tema last week. The plant, which specialises in the production of tinned milk, started operating last October. The official opening ceremony was conducted by Major Kwame Baah, Ghana's Commissioner for Lands and Natural Resources.
Speaking at the opening was Mr. E.P.L. Gyampoh, Director of Ghana's National Investment Bank, a major share-holder in the new firm.
Another address was made by Mr. Mutsaerts of the Nestle Organisation. As a principal user of Ghana's cocoa, he said nestle's was proud to have contributed its knowledge of mil products during the factory's development.
Major Baah also made an address. He said the new factory, known as the Food Specialities Ghana Limited, would save the Ghanain economy 500,000 pounds sterling in foreign exchange annually. Furthermore, he said, the new firm's output of 1.2 million containers of reconstituted milk a year would more than satisfy the present requirements of the Ghanain milk market.
