- Story Text: In final round elimination play for the European basketball championships in Vienna on Thursday (17 May), Greece defeated East Germany, 76 points to 58.
The smaller Greek team dominated play around the East German basket, especially taking advantage of rebounds.
Stefanos Yiatzoglou for Greece was one of the outstanding players, sinking several long baskets past the disorganised East German defenders.
France, Turkey, Greece, Israel, East and West Germany were meeting in Vienna's Stadthalle to determine which teams would meet the 8 division teams in Barcelona, Spain, for the finals of the championship.
