- Story Text: Iraq's Vice-President Sadam Hussein discussed a multi million dollar agreement to boost his country's economic development with French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac in a working session in Paris on Monday (3 March).
French investment plans, including construction of a big petrochemical plant in Iraq, were first discussed last December during M. Chirac's visit to Baghdad.
Under the co-operation programme, Iraq has already agreed to grant France a loan of 1,000 million dollars (about 440 million pounds sterling) to help France in its foreign trade deficit and also to finance Iraqi purchases of French capital equipment.
The Iraqi leader earlier met the French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing. They talked about the proposed conference between oil producers and consumers-a restricted preparatory meeting is scheduled to be held in Paris next month.
Mr Hussein told President Giscard d'Estaing that his country fully supported his proposal for such a conference.
He was on his way to Algiers to attend the summit meeting of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
