- Story Text: At least 20,000 opposition supporters have gathered in
central Belgrade for a second day to celebrate what they say
was a victory in crucial weekend elections.
The rally on Monday (September 25) in Belgrade's main
Republic square blocked off traffic on nearby streets. There
was no visible police presence at the square, where some 8,000
had gathered on Sunday following the closing of polling
stations.
Earlier on Monday, former chief of the Yugoslav Army,
Momcilo Perisic, had called people to the streets for a second
night to celebrate what he said was a victory by the
opposition in Sunday's presidential elections.
The opposition and Milosevic's ruling party are both
claiming victory in the polls.
