- Story Text: Severe thunderstorms have caused damage across northern
Illinois in the United States.
Strong wind and heavy rain brought down trees and power
lines and damaged buildings in Chicago on Saturday (July 5).
More than 100,000 people were left without electricity as
the wind speed reached 120 kilometres an hour (75 mph).
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
One man said it was "chaos".
A woman said there was "stuff all over the place...you
could see oranges, stuff from kitchens, stuff from the
bathroom -- all at my front door. It was terrifying."
Storms are forecast every day until Wednesday.
