- Story Text: Horse racing on frozen lake at St Moritz.
Thoroughbred horses from around the world thundered
across a frozen lake during the White Turf competition in
St Moritz, Switzerland on Sunday (February 15).
Races included flat course sprints, trotting and
skijoring, in which skiers are pulled by horses.
The skijoring was the highlight on the 2,700 metre
circuit.
The winner was Harald Kronseder pulled by Akebono.
Second was Jakob Broger with Volta. Broger has won 12 of
the 24 skijoring races he has entered. A smaller
course of 1,900 metres is used for the sulky
racing, won this year by Yvan Pittet and Joker Rose.
The St Moritz White Turf races have been held every
year since 1907 on the 1,800 metre-high resort's frozen
lake.
