It is a feast as soon as we are around a table, when we go to the Chateaux and it is a feast when it is organised in the heart of a town. It is a great town and very much associated to the wine. I think, if a town has to celebrate the wine then, it should be Bordeaux above all." 4.41 30. GV FIREWORKS (2 SHOTS) 5.04 Initials Script is copyright Reuters Limited. All rights reserved

- Story Text: France's annual Bordeaux wine festival was especially
lively this year as wine producers from the Aquitaine region
marked the new millenium.
Some 250,000 visitors from all across the globe
flooded the streets of the French wine capital, Bordeaux, to
celebrate the city's annual Wine Festival.
To mark the third millennium, the southwestern French town
went all out with extra special festivities from wine tasting
and exhibitions to street concerts and fireworks.
Winegrowers, estate-owners and shippers from 57 Bordeaux
appellations and 23 regional appellations were present in the
Village des Appellations (Appellations village) where they
traded knowledge, passion and trade secrets. In addition, some
were even willing to grant connoisseurs an insight into the
mysteries of wine.
For three days, people sharing their passion for Bordeaux
wines strolled along the streets visiting the Quais du Vin et
du Terroir, along the Garonne river, the heart of the
festival.
"We are crazy for Bordeaux red wine. So, its kind of a
dream to come to Bordeaux," said Ying, a Japanese visitor.
Tasting courses were also part of the wine festival: an
excellent opportunity for connoisseurs to improve their
knowledge of wine and for others to learn the art of tasting,
how to hold a glass, to appreciate a wines brilliant colour,
how to recognise flowery, oaky and spicy aromas.
"It is an opportunity for me to get comments on the
various
wines, to know how to come to such an harmony and then have a
chance to become initiated into wine smelling and testing,"
said
Emilie Daguerre, one of the visitors attending the course.
Visitors enjoyed their three days in Bordeaux, the town
most
traditionally associated with wine.
