  • Story Text: East Germany will supply experts to the People's Republic of Congo and receive Congolese trainees under an economic and cultural Convention signed in Brazzaville on Monday (27 September).

    The Congolese trainees will be from Congo-Brazzaville's planning services and those concerned with state enterprises.

    Diplomatic relations between East Germany and Congo-Brazzaville began in January 1969. This new Convention is reported to be an important step on the way to intensive aid from East Germany for industrial development in Congo-Brazzaville.

    SYNOPSIS: A Convention on scientific and economic co-operation was signed in Brazzaville on Monday by representatives of the People's Republic of the Congo and East Germany. Mr. Villa Gregoire, Director of Economic and Cultural collaboration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the East German delegates led by Mr. Karl Muller,to the office of the Congolese Vice-President.

    Diplomatic relations between the East Germans and Congo-Brazzaville began in January 1969, and since then the links between the two states have developed smoothly. The new convention allows for teachers and specialists in economic planning to be sent to the Congo during the next two years and for congolese to be trained as technicians in East Germany.

    The congolese representative Mr. Gregoire was first to sign the new Convention, which is reported to be an important step on the way to intensive aid from East Germany for industrial development in Congo-brazzaville. In his speech after Mr. Muller had signed, Mr. Gregoire stressed the necessity to collaboration of a type that gives the utmost in development value to the Congo. Mr. Muller said he was satisfied at how far collaboration between the two countries had developed in a comparatively short time.
