- Story Text: Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher drives his
Ferrari down Champs Elysee for fund-raising event,
delighting crowds.
The roar of a Ferrari Formula One engine
reverberated down the Champs Elysees and around the Place
de la Concorde in Paris on Sunday (5 December) as Formula
One world champion Michael Schumacher led a special victory
parade in Paris.
Schumacher, who won his seventh title this year in the
F2004 car, was part of a five-car traffic-stopping parade
from the Arc de Triomphe to the Health Ministry.
Ferrari's chairman Jean Todt, who is French, ex-Formula
One drivers Rene Arnoux and Patrick Tambay, and Sauber's
Felipe Massa accompanied the German in road-going Ferraris.
Schumacher was in Paris having taken part in a 'Race of
Champions' event at the Stade de France on Saturday (4
December), pitting circuit drivers against rally aces. The
event raised funds to create an Institute for Brain and
Spinal Cord Disorders ((ICM), a brain and spine charity
backed by Todt and Schumacher.
On arrival at the Health ministry Schumacher and Todt
listened to a presentation by the French Health Minister.
On Saturday Schumacher was beaten as top racer by the
young Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen who then went on to
beat World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb and be crowned
race champion. However Schumacher was pitted against Loeb,
in a clash billed as Champion of Champions, and the German
won over three heats.
