- Story Text: INTRO: For the first time, the Sarajevo government arrests Bosnian Moslem indicted by the U.N. war crimes tribunal.
------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bosnian government arrested two Moslems indicted by the United Nations (U.N.) war crimes tribunal for killing Serbs at a prison camp in 1992, the tribunal said on Thursday (May 2, 1996).
It is the first time that any of the former Yugoslav republics has exercised an arrest warrant issued by the tribunal.
Hazim Delic and Esad Landzo were indicted for crimes allegedly committed at the Celebici prison camp near the central Bosnian town of Konjic. Bosnia was expected to hand them over to the tribunal soon.
The March 22 indictment against Delic, Landzo and two other suspects, Zejnil Delalic and Zdravko Mucic, was the tribunal's first for crimes by Moslems against Serb victims.
Residents of Konjic apeared to be divided on the leadership's decision to hand them over.
Some said justice must be done whilst others claimed Delic and Landzo were not guilty.
Delic, a deputy to Mucic, has been charged with four murders and Landzo, a camp guard, with five murders.
Delic and Landzo are being held in Sarajevo's central prison pending their extradition to stand trial in the Hague.
