- Story Text: Players in the beach volleyball world championships
went on temporary strike but then resolved their problems.
Participants at the Berlin beach volleyball world
championships in Berlin went on temporary strike on
Thursday (June 23) to demand a bigger say within the
international volleyball federation.
Women players did not show up for their games at noon
(1000GMT) but then had talks with the president of the
volleyball world federation (FIVB) and settled their
differences.
"The issues with the FIVB (Federation Internationale
de Volleyball) in our discussion have been resolved to
allow a players' commission to put together the issues for
the players and to have a representative to attend the FIVB
meetings once a year with the promotores, the television,
the sponsors," spokesperson for all players Natalie Cook of
the Australia team said.
"We believe that it is important for the players to
have their voice as one voice."
Cook began her statement by stressing that "the
tournament here in Berlin is the greatest event outside of
the Olypmic Games and we are as players all very proud to
be here to play."
