- Story Text: Leaders of the nine European Economic Community countries met at the Elysee Palace for a banquet after the first working day of their summit conference on Monday night (9 December).
The meetings ended on Tuesday night, and the nine leaders reached full agreement on all major issues facing THEM.
The two-day summit ended with agreement on Britain's demand that it should pay less towards the Community's running costs. Also discussed were energy questions, the creation of a regional development fund and joint action to fight inflation and unemployment.
Earlier in the evening, there were sharp exchanges between British Prime Minister Harold Wilson and French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing on Britain's demand to renegotiate its EEC entry terms.
On institutional matters, the meeting ended with accord on the Community's European Parliament, although Britain and Denmark reserved their position on this.
The leaders had also agreed on having three Community Summits (to be known as European Council) each year -- the first of these will take place during the first quarter of next year.
