- Story Text: U.S. troops have raided several buildings in the
Iraqi town of Baquba.
U.S. soldiers raided several houses in the town of
Baquba, 80 km north of Baghdad, on Saturday (November 1).
Officers at the scene said one man arrested during the
raid was suspected of being a member of al Qaeda, but they
gave no information about the identity of the suspect.
Baquba is a stronghold of Muslim Sunnis and loyalists
of Saddam Hussein opposed to the U.S.-led coalition. They
are believed to be behind several fatal attacks carried out
against U.S. troops in the area.
