- Story Text: The first Iraqi rapid deployment force graduated in
Najaf.
A 300-member Rapid Deployment Force graduated on
Tuesday (March 23), ending a 50-day training course.
The training of the new Iraqi force was supervised by
Spanish troops.
A graduation ceremony was held at Kufa stadium, where
members of the new force paraded and demonstrated fighting
skills.
The graduation ceremony was attended by the chief of
Najaf police, Commander of the Spanish troops and a
representative of Iraq's Governing Council member Abdul
Aziz al-Hakim.
The Commader of the Spanish troops in Najaf said the
new force would help boost security in Najaf province.
"This unit will further boost efforts of the security
forces and held provide security to every citizen in Najaf
province."
Spain has 1,300 soldiers in parts of south-central
Iraq.
