- Story Text: A multi-racial interfaith delegation of religious
leaders from the United States has visited Iraq on a prayer
pilgrimage for peace.
The African-American multi-faith delegation attended a
church service with Iraqi Christians in Baghad on Monday
(March 3).
The multi-faith delegation had come to Baghdad to bear
witness to the compassion and concern of faith communities in
the United States for the human dignity and well-being of the
Iraqi people, a press release issued by the delegation stated.
Reverend Walter Fauntroy said: "We come to the one place
that can save the world from barbarism of war that can begin
here and appeal that we not give the U.S government a pretext
for starting a war by complying fully with what the United
Nations is asked of us and has asked of the people of Iraq."
The press release mentioned that U.N. sanctions on Iraq
had already have already inflicted a devastating toll on the
Iraqi people,
The delegation made it known that a bombing campaign on
Baghdad will only compound their suffering and add greater
instability to a region that is already embroiled in conflict.
