- Story Text: Barbara Krause of East Germany caused a rare setback on Saturday (14 February) for young Dutch girl Enith Brigitha who has been the outstanding success of the multi-nation Tilt international meeting, at Antibes, southern France.
Miss Brigitha had the best qualifying time of 2 minutes 21.57 seconds for the women's 200 metres (yards) individual medley but she was unable to reproduce such fast time in the final. Miss Krause, who improved on her qualifying time by nearly half a second, beat Miss Brigitha to the touch by a tenth of a second to win in 2 minutes 22.02 seconds.
Andrea Pollack of East Germany was in the lead after the butterfly and breaststroke sections but in the last two laps freestyle Krause and Brigitha came past her, Krause's finish being slightly the stronger. Miss Pollack came third in 2 minutes 23.06 seconds.
However Miss Brigitha had her revenge in the women's 200 metres freestyle on Sunday (15 February), the last day of the meeting, when she won in a world best time - but the time will not go into the record book because Antibes is only a 25 metre (yard) pool.
