My country is not ignorant. Nor are we indifferent to your struggle. We know our victory in the war on terror depends on Israel's survival. - Story Text: Tom DeLay, the firebrand U.S Majority Leader,
pledged Israel and the U.S are united against violence.
It was a vintage performance by the Republican from
Texas as he spoke during a week-long trip to Israel. He
called Israel an "endangered democracy" and said the U.S.
shared the country's struggle and would do so "until every
terrorist is either in a cell or in a cemetery".
During his visit to the Middle East, DeLay met several
leading Israeli figures as well as Salam Fayyad, the
Palestinian Finance Minister.
DeLay, a strong supporter of President George Bush's
policy in the Middle East, added that that the
Palestinians' true enemy was "not Israel, nor its people,
nor its democratic institutions, but Yasser Arafat," and
the various militant groups opposing Israel.
