- Story Text: Ex-Kremlin aide Pavel Borodin arrived in Geneva on
Wednesday evening to face questioning from Swiss authorities
on money-laundering charges.
Ex-Kremlin aide Pavel Borodin arrived in Geneva on
Wednesday (May 16) to face questioning linked to his
indictment last month on Swiss money-laundering charges.
The confident of ex-President Boris Yeltsin will answer
questions on Thursday relating to US$25 million he allegedly
took in kickbacks.
Pavel Borodin is at the centre of a Swiss investigation
into huge kickbacks from US$500 million Kremlin renovation
contracts, allegedly laundered through Swiss banks and
offshore accounts.
Borodin was extradited to Geneva after being seized at New
York's JFK airport in January on a Swiss international
warrant.
He denies all charges and remains secretary of a nebulous
union between Russia and neighbouring Belarus.
Russia, which paid Borodin's five million Swiss franc
bail, dropped its inquiry into the case last year.
