- Story Text: A four day executive meeting of the Womens' Democratic International Federation ended in Lisbon, Portugal on Friday (26 November) with a fervent pledge to support international peace and social justice.
SYNOPSIS: It closed with a mass rally at the city's Sports Pavilion attended by 2000 men, women and children. Delegates from Europe, Australasia, Asia, Africa and South and North America took part. The Federation represents womens movements from developed and developing countries, and socialist, communist and capital-list countries. It aspires to join women everywhere in the fight to unite the globe in brotherhood, and peace and press for social justice for all. And the women leading the movement in various parts of the world received an enthusiastic welcome from the crowd.
In the days leading up to the rally the delegates to the executive meeting had exchanged ideas pertinent to their believes. In the past few years women every-where have been taking an increasingly active part in government. But more so, they have been leading the world in peace movements and the eradication of discrimination in their own homelands. The president of the Federation is an Australian, Mrs. Freda Brown. And her farewell address received a standing ovation.
