- Story Text: Thirty five historic ferraris, dating from 1951 to
1989, went on auction at the exclusive Swiss resort of Gstaad.
The top lot, a 1961 Ferrari 250GT Competizione Berlinetta,
fetched over one and a half million Swiss francs.
An array of thirty five historic ferraris, dating from
1951 to 1989, went under the hammer on Tuesday in the
luxurious Palace hotel of Gstaad, Switzerland.
Yellow, blue, white, silver, black and of course red;
There was one for every taste at Bonhams annual ferrari sale
in the exclusive Swiss resort.
The star lot, a red Ferrari 250GT Short-Wheelbase
Competizione Berlinetta sold for 1,640,750 Swiss francs
(GBP713,369) to a young Belgium aristocrat. In 1961, the
car was supplied new to Swiss driver Walther Lambert, who
raced it in several major competitions. But Lamberts last
outing was to be
an ill-fated one. Choosing to drive the car by road to the Col
de la Faucille hill climb near Geneva, Lambert lost control
near Murten and was killed, just a month after taking delivery
of the 2443GT.
Bonhams Europe's fourth Ferrari sale in Gstaad topped 5. 2
million U.S. dollars.
