- Story Text: An American Humanitarian Aid affiliate to Coalition
Provisional Authority has started rehabilitating some schools
in Baghdad which came under looting and destruction after the
fall of Saddam regime on April 9.
The Coalition Provisional Authority began
rehabilitating some schools in Baghdad on Saturday (June 28),
by delivering desks and school supplies.
The U.S forces, along with Iraqi contractors, brought new
desks and stationery to schools which were effected by the
looting which took place after the fall of Saddam Hussein's
regime.
"This is the first school in the area that we have come
to, but it is not the first school in Baghdad that we have
come to. We have been visiting schools, doctors offices and
other health clinics community centres, identifying what aid
and help they need and in future we will continue provide the
desks and supplies and other items that the school may need a
lot of it contributed by American citizens and American
schools," said Captain Matt Jessup.
Most of Iraq's governmental buildings were looted or set
on fire following the fall of Baghdad to the coalition forces
on April 9.
Many schools were destroyed, looted or set on fire by
Looters.
Most schools now lack basic facilities, including desks,
blackboards, cupboards, lamps. Electricity wires were also
looted from schools.
