- Story Text: Hundreds of Iraqis mourned the death of two
employees of a U.S.-funded Iraqi television.
Hundreds of relatives and colleagues gathered on
Tuesday (April 20) to participate in the funeral of two
staff of al-Iraqiya television killed on Monday by U.S.
fire.
U.S. forces killed correspondent Asaad Kadhim and
driver Hussein Saleh of the U.S.-funded television station
Al-Iraqiya while working in Samarra, north of Baghdad.
The mourners waited for hours for the arrival of the
bodies at the Baghdad Gate, the main entrance of the
Baghdad city from north.
Shouting "Allah-u-Akbar" (God is Greatest), bereaved
relatives and collegues blasted the United States as they
cried over the coffins and holding up pictures of the dead
men.
According to the colleagues of the dead men, a
cameraman was also injured in the attack in the northern
city of Samarra.
The U.S. military said it had no information on the
deaths.
Local and international media organizations have
criticized the conduct of U.S. forces in Iraq, saying more
care should be taken to protect journalists.
At least six other journalists have been killed by U.S.
forces in Iraq since the U.S.-led war began.
