- Story Text: Iraqi families have been going to a Baghdad hospital to
look for the bodies of relatives buried in shallow graves,
which they wish to recover for proper burial.
The grounds of the hospital for children in al-Mansour,
in Baghdad, have been turned into a cemetery.
Relatives of those killed during the U.S.-led war against
Iraq came to the hospital on Saturday (April 19) to search for
the bodies of friends and relatives.
Many wore gas masks to overcome the powerful stench of
death which pervades the cemetery. Identification is a
gruesome task.
One of the people at the makeshift cemetery tried to
identify his relative by searching for clues in the mouth of
the body with his finger.
"He (the dead man) had lost two teeth and had two
artificial ones in their place," he said. The man was
identified as his brother.
