- Story Text: Security on alert in Jerusalem as pilgrims come to
celebrate Easter Sunday
Israeli police have gone on security alert after
fears Palestinian militants may be planning a suicide
bombing during the Easter weekend.
Roadblocks have been set up throughout Jerusalem and
searches carried out on vehicles and pedestrians.
The last suicide bomber was on February 25th, killing
five people outside a nightclub in Tel Aviv in an attack
that punctured a de facto ceasefire.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who is trying to
reach a formal truce with militant groups, vowed to bring
those responsible for the attack to justice.
The Damascus-based leadership of the militant
Palestinian group, Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility
for the Tel Aviv attack.
Israeli forces on Thursday killed an Islamic Jihad
militant in the West Bank who it said played a central role
in the bombing.
