- Story Text: The fourth U.S. infantry division in Tikrit have
gathered for Christmas prayers over breakfast.
The U.S. Fourth Infantry Division gathered for
Christmas prayers in Tikrit over breakfast on Tuesday
(December 23).
Christmas arrived early this year for some of the
30,000 U.S. troops in Tikrit who caught Saddam Hussein a
week ago.
"It was somewhat of a Christmas present to capture
Sa
ddam Hussein and I think it will make a big difference as
we continue to move forward in Iraq," Commander of the
fourth Infantry division Major General Ray Odierno said.
Saddam was found hiding in a hole on a farm outside his
hometown and powerbase of Tikrit.
U.S. military officials have warned that Saddam's
capture does not necessarily signal an end to the
insurgency and could accelerate the pace of attacks on
U.S.-backed Iraqi police and security forces, as well as
civilian targets.
