- Story Text: INTRO: Pon Saradeth and his border collie Owen took the 1996 Canine Frisbee Championship title and a 1,000 U.S.
dollarsavings bond in the Ashley Whippet Invitational in Washington, D.C.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Pon and Owen were one of 14 world finalist teams invited to compete.
One-hundred and fifteen community finals were held to designate spots for seven regional finals. The top two teams in each regional final went on to the championships.
The world championship competition consisted of three rounds: Freeflight, Mini-Distance and another Free Flight round.
Judging and scoring in the freeflight rounds is based on a combination of four elements: degree of difficulty, leaping agility, execution and showmanship.
The mini-distance round is scored on distance and height.
Steven Heeter of Cartersville, Georgia and his border collie Radical Rush were the first runners-up and recieved a 500 U.S.
dollar savings bond. Third place and 250 U.S. dollars went to John Misita of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and his mixed-breed Turbo.
