- Story Text: Ukrainian biker buffs gather for a rough ride
through Kiev.
Hundreds of Ukrainian motorcycle enthusiasts
gathered near the capital Kiev on Saturday (June 6) to
celebrate the biker lifestyle.
Organisers from the "Crazy Hohols" - slang for
Ukrainians - Motofan Club and who staged the "Crazy Summer
Motorbike Show" said at least 500 motorbikes joined the
opening ceremony.
Before getting underway, bikers rocked to the heavy
metal sound of Russian band "Aria" at Kiev's main stadium.
"The majority of people you see here are businessmen.
There are people who love the biker life, for whom it's a
lifestyle, but here it's more like a motorcycle fan club.
We are people who love to ride bikes and we are just having
fun. It's only one part of our lives", said banker Denis
Kopylov.
Riding Harley Davidsons, BMW's, Kawasaki and Ducatis,
costing thousands of dollars, black leather-clad men
accompanied by fashionably dressed girfriends later hit the
road in style.
After leaving the stadium bikers brought traffic across
most of the city of 3.5 million to a near standstill as
hundreds of onlookers cheered them on.
Organisers say they plan to make the gathering an annual
event and expect more members as motocycle ownership
expands.
