- Story Text: Surviving members of rock group The Doors visit
grave of singer Jim Morrison on what would have been his
60th birthday.
Keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robbie Krieger
and new singer with The Doors, Ian Astbury, paid a tribute
to late singer Jim Morrison on what would have been his
60th birthday at the Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris on
Monday (December 8).
During a short ceremony, Ray Manzarek burnt a fan's
letter and spread the ashes on Jim Morrison's grave.
Rock fans gathered at the ceremony holding candles and
wearing Jim Morrison's photo on their chests.
One fan, Marc, said: "I've been waiting for this moment
for a long time. As a fan, it is a great relief to see him
today. John (Densmore) is missing and with him, I would
know what its like to be happy."
Another fan with a tattoo of Jim Morrison's face on her
upper arm, said she had come all the way from the United
States to celebrate what would have been Morrison's 60th
birthday.
"I came all the way from America. I came from New
Jersey to see the Doors and to celebrate Jim's 60th
birthday," she said.
The group, featuring former Doors members Robby Krieger
and Ray Manzarek, are now called 'The Doors 21st Century'
and are fronted by new singer Ian Asdtbury.
The band recently reformed after originally disbanding
following the death of their legendary frontman Jim
Morrison in 1971.
The Doors were well-known for hits including 'Riders on
the Storm', 'Light my Fire', 'The End', 'Morrison Hotel',
and 'Ghost Song'.
