- Story Text: Two U.S. soldiers were wounded when their convoy
struck an explosive device on a bridge in central Baghdad.
Two U.S. soldiers were wounded on Monday (September
8) when their convoy struck an explosive device on a bridge
in central Baghdad, the U.S. military said.
The U.S. Army convoy was heading over the Jamhuriya
Bridge which spans the Tigris river when it hit an
explosive device at around 7:30 a.m. (0330 GMT), a
spokesman said. "It damaged two Humvees. One of the
Humvees
overturned," the spokesman said, adding the wounded had
been evacuated for treatment.
It was the latest in daily guerrilla attacks on U.S.
soldiers in Iraq which Washington blames on fighters loyal
to ousted leader Saddam Hussein. Sixty-seven U.S. and 11
British soldiers have been killed since President George W.
Bush declared major combat over on May 1.
