- Story Text: Wales opened their five-nation Rugby Union championship campaign in confident style on Saturday (18 January) when they defeated France in devastating style. The final score was 25-10 and was a clear indication of the inspired style of the Welshmen.
A capacity crowd of 65,000 Paris fans booed the home team as the new-look Welsh team surged across the line time after time. The Welsh team contained six new players, but all played like experienced masters.
The Welsh attack was spearheaded by scrum-half Edwards, who scored a brilliant try and set up other with his stunning changes of direction and jinxing runs.
The 25 Welsh points included a goal, four tries and a penalty ... while the French could manage only one try and two penalties.
The result proved Wales will be a strong threat to Ireland, England and Scotland in the remaining matches of the series.
